What is Craftsy?

What is Craftsy?
Craftsy is a worldwide craft community offering online classes. It also has a patterns marketplace where independent designers can sell their patterns; a supplies shop with great deals on yarn, fabric, and class kits; and a projects section where members share pictures of their latest craft successes. With over two million members and counting, Craftsy has something for just about everyone, in categories ranging from quilting, sewing, knitting, painting, photography, cooking, and more.

Why should I take a class online?
Online education isn’t just for schools and universities anymore. Craftsy courses provide you the convenience of a world-class instructor in your home, whenever you want to learn. Online education, no matter what subject, is a great alternative to in-person classes for a number of reasons.

With many online learning opportunities being on-demand, you are able to learn at your own pace, anytime. Online learning is a fantastic alternative to in-store craft classes for people with busy schedules or who have difficulty leaving the house. It also allows you to watch a troubling section over-and-over again, so you can see exactly how a technique is carried out, or refer back to your class for relevant concepts before beginning any new projects.

Sew Steady Sewing Machine Tables

Sew Steady Tables are terrific! Karen has had hers for a few years and now Happy Apple Quilts is very pleased to be a Sew Steady retailer. Sew Steady tables are made in the U.S.A. by Dream World. As with most fantastic products, someone had an idea to make a task easier. In this case, a sewing instructor wanted a table that fit around her sewing machine to give her a better work area. Her table was so practical and helpful that the ladies in her classes all wanted one too. Since that humble beginning in 1994, Dream World has made thousands of Sew Steady Tables. Each table is made from the highest grades of acrylic available, and custom fit for the purchaser's specific model and make of sewing machine. The tables are very easy to transport and set up and are perfect for taking to classes and retreats. There is a variety of sizes available to fit individual needs and budgets.
The larger tables include a handy clear acrylic storage drawer. Wonderful accessories include a durable vinyl travel bag, clear acrylic spinner rack for more convenient storage, and the Universal Sew Straight Guide. Sew Steady Tables and accessories can be purchased at www.happyapplequilts.com and shipped directly from Dream Works to your home. Modern Look in Marcia Derse Fabrics

Gathered Go-Go Purse
in 3 Marcia Derse Fabrics
made by Cindi Clapp
Marcia Derse writes, "Each piece of fabric is a new exploration of color, form and texture. They are paintings in themselves and when I bring them them together on a giant white wall in my studio space each piece becomes a landmark or road in the map of the idea I am translating."

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Marcia was raised in Sylvania, OH and educated at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her creative heart was influenced from a very young age by the creativity of her mother. Sewing clothes for her four daughters meant hours of sewing joy for her mother while Marcia was nearby creating her own ideas for her clothing with crayons and colorful pieces of paper.

Today Marcia creates works of art for fabric in the Riverwoods Collection of Troy Corporation. Working at her studio in Sylvania, OH, she is inspired by everything she encounters. Her artist's "tools" are found in nature, the seasons and her travels. Beginning with a bolt of muslin, fabric dyes and primary colors of silkscreen paints, Marcia blends, mixes and paints with abandon, examining her work from every vantage point and angle until fully satisfied. Only then is her creativity transformed to the Marcia Derse fabric collections, excellent fabric designs for quilting, clothing and purse making.

Good Luck, Joanne

Joanne shares her Hoffman Challenge entry with us. Joanne has been drawing and sketching since she was 10 years old. In the past few years she has turned her life long love into fabric art. The Hoffman Challenge quilt, Peacock Bloom is her first wall quilt. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. She made her own fabric embellishments from the Hoffman Challenge fabric. You will want to visit her blog Joanne's Fabric Art to enjoy her creation process, not only of this quilt, but her other original fabric and embroidery art. (Below is the Hoffman Challenge fabric.)

Pattern Ease, Great Idea

Hey, Brenda! Thanks for mentioning Pattern Ease in your comments about using it with the Love to Dress Up 18" Dolls Book. I have used it when making A Little Somethin' Jacket and loved it. Karen is a different size than I am, (ok - smaller) and I can make jackets for both of us from the same pattern. Pattern Ease is 46" wide, sold by the yard, and 80% polyester/20% rayon.

Love to Dress Up Dolls Book - Play with - Sew for Dolls

Brenda, of Happy Apple Quilts, spent her day off sewing doll clothes to give to
her little twin friends. Now she is hooked, and we are delighted to share her creations.

LOVE TO DRESS UP DOLLS has 12 outfits that can be made from fat quarters.
Brenda sent me this email:  This pattern book is wonderful!  It is very, very “user friendly” and the pattern pieces are easy to work with.  I traced the pattern pieces on “pattern ease” (which we carry in the store).  That way you don’t have to ruin your master patterns in the book, and you can use them over and over.  The pattern ease can be ironed, if necessary, after storage and before use again.  I just love this little book.  The pieces can be mixed and matched to make lots of different outfit combinations.  I am having way too much fun working with book and making these doll clothes!!!!!

 Summer Dress and Purse
Love the fabrics and buttons you chose, Brenda. I know the floral is Petal Pushers.
The dot fabric is great. Which one is that? Perfect heart buttons.
I'm not surprised that you made this top and crops outfit, Brenda.
You talked about it the day Taxi by Timeless Treasures arrived at the shop.
Way too cute top and shorts.
Thanks for showing us the matching bow on the back of the shorts.

Very interesting that Karen is bringing into our shop lots of great fabrics for clothes
for dolls and little girls, too! After all, she now has two granddaughters.
